The short film Grotesques from Ellen Wetmore appears to be a moving artwork based on the human body and its many poses. The three frames in the center of the screen each take on a different setting but they all have a similar rhythm set with the crashing waves. Around these frames of daily activity there are other objects and human mirrored women in poses to fill the negative space and appear as background but they are animated as well. This allows the film to have several points of focus that change for its duration but the rhythm stays virtually the same for its entirety. Maybe this is a symbol of daily ritual just as the oceans tides.
